Lesson 1

The legality of Healing in the Holy Qur’an

*In the name of of Allah the Merciful*And we send down from the Qur’an what is a cure and a mercy for the believers.

Surat ( Al- Isra’ -82)

O God, praise be to you, your light is fulfilled, and you are guided, and to you praise is your dream, so I forgave, but praise be to you. You stretched out Your Hand, and You were given. You revealed your great book, guidance and mercy, and made it a healing and a blessing. It removes from the bodies diseases and ailments, as it removes from the hearts ignorance, polytheism, and suspicion.

And we pray and salute Your Messenger, Your Presbyter, Your friend and Your salvation, our master Muhammad, who knew the value of the Qur’an and took it as a medicine to treat himself and other diseases that descend from diseases and exhorted to seek refuge with Him from what alternates from accidents and symptoms.

There is no doubt that the Noble Qur’an is a complete cure from all mental and physical diseases.

* The Almighty said: {And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers, and it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss}* [Al-Isra’ 82].

* It was narrated that prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, asked Allah, and he said: O Lord, from whom is the remedy? He told me. He said: What about the doctor? A man said the medicine was sent on his hands *

* It was narrated that prophet Moses, peace be upon him once said : O Lord, from whom is the cure and the medicine? He (Allah) said from me he said what do doctors do? He said: They eat their sustenance and sweeten the souls of My servants until my recovery or my capture comes.

* It was also narrated that prophet Moses, peace be upon him, experienced severe pain in his stomach while he was in the Sinai desert, so he complained to God Almighty and begged Him to be cured, so Allah the Almighty guided him to an herb in a place in the desert. So he ate that herb on his own, but his illness did not go away, so Allah the Almighty spoke about this, and Allah Almighty said to him: I ate the herb the first time from me, and I was cured, and the second time I ate it from yourself, and you did not leave me, and your disease did not go away. Do you not know, Moses, that the whole world is a deadly poison, and its antidote is my name?

On the authority of Osama bin Sharik, he said: I was with the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and the Bedouins came and asked him, “What is the best thing that I give people?” He said, “Good manners.” They said, “O Messenger of God, seek medical treatment.” He said, “Yes, servants of God, seek treatment, for God Almighty has not created a disease in the earth except that He has created a cure for it, other than one disease.” They said, What is he? He said: The pyramid.

* On the authority of Ibn Abi Khuzama, on the authority of his father, he said: I asked the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, and I said, “Oh, Messenger of God, have you seen ruqyah that we use for ruqyah and medicine with which we treat and piety that we ward off? Is there anything from God’s predestination?” He said, “It is from God’s decree.”

*God the Most High said: “O people, there has come to you an admonition from your Lord, a cure for what is in the breasts, a guidance and a mercy for us.” [Al-Yamin: 57]

The Qur’an is a cure for the hearts from the diseases of suspicion and obsession, and a cure for the bodies from ailments.

On the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him, the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said the best medicine is the Qur’an [Ibn Majah, Book of Medicine, Chapter on Healing with the Qur’an, and it was classed as hasan by some scholars, and weak by Al-Albani]*

And in the narration (The Qur’an is the medicine) [Al-Manawi classed it as good, and Al-Albani classed it as weak]*

And in a narration on you are the two cures, honey and the Qur’an [Ibn Majah, authenticated by Al-Hakim and Al-Dhahabi, and it was weak by Al-Albani]*

How does healing happen through the Qur’an?*

*It does two things*

Doing it, especially in the middle of the night, with the intention of healing.

Ruqyah with it. The saliva resulting from reciting the Qur’an has a great effect on strength, vigor, health and wellness, which is not comparable to any mixture of herbal mixtures or a compound of pharmacists’ compounds.

Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, may God be pleased with him, that some of the companions of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, were on a journey. With the Fatiha of the Book, the man was healed, and he was given a flock of sheep, but he refused to accept it and said, “Until I mention that to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.” So the Prophet, may God bless him and his family, came and he mentioned it to him. my share with you*

*

*On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, was when he was disturbed, he reads himself with his sins and spoiled, and he was tired of him, and he was very happy.

The narration of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, states that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, felt unwell, he would recite the Mu’awwidhatayn (the last two chapters of the Quran) on himself and blow on himself. When his pain intensified, I used to recite on him and wipe him with his blessed hand, seeking its blessings.

In another narration by Muslim, it is mentioned that when any member of his family fell sick, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would recite the Mu’awwidhatayn and blow over them. When he was sick in the illness which caused his death, I recited the Mu’awwidhatayn and wiped him with his blessed hand, as it was the greatest source of blessing from my hands.

The Legitimacy of Healing with the Noble Quran

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy to the believers.

O Allah, all praise is due to You for Your enlightenment, for You have guided us. All praise is due to You for Your greatness, for You have forgiven us. All praise is due to You for Your generosity, for You have granted us. You have revealed Your great Book as guidance and mercy, and made it a cure and blessing that removes illnesses and ailments from our bodies, just as it removes ignorance, disbelief, and uncertainty from our hearts.

We also send blessings and peace upon Your Messenger, Your chosen one, Your friend, and our savior, Prophet Muhammad, who recognized the value of the Quran and used it as a remedy to treat himself and others from various illnesses and afflictions. He also encouraged seeking refuge in it during times of calamities and crises. We ask You to be pleased with his noble family, his distinguished companions, and those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.

There is no doubt that the Noble Quran is a complete remedy for all psychological and physical diseases.

Allah the Almighty says: “And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy to the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.” [Surah Al-Isra’, 17:82]

It is narrated that Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) asked Allah, “O Lord, from where does healing come?” Allah replied, “From Me.” Ibrahim then asked, “Then what about the doctors?” Allah said, “I send the medicine through their hands.”

Similarly, it is narrated that Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) asked Allah, “O Lord, from where does healing and cure come?” Allah replied, “From Me.” Musa asked, “Then what do the doctors do?” Allah said, “They eat from their livelihood and comfort My servants’ souls until I provide either healing or death.”

It is also narrated that when Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) was afflicted with severe pain in his stomach while he was in the Sinai desert, he complained to Allah, seeking a cure. Allah guided him to a plant in the desert that he ate from and was cured for that time. He praised Allah and went on his way. However, the illness returned after some time, and he ate from the same plant but his illness did not go away. Allah then spoke to him, saying, “You ate from the plant the first time by My permission and were cured, but the second time you ate from it on your own, without seeking My permission, and therefore, your illness did not go away. Do you not know, O Musa, that the entire world is full of deadly poisons, and that their antidote is in My name?”

And from Osama bin Shareek, he said: “I was with the Prophet (peace be upon him) when the Bedouins came and asked him, ‘What is the best thing that people are given?’ He said, ‘Good manners.’ They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, do you get sick?’ He said, ‘Yes, O slaves of Allah, I get sick. You should seek treatment, for Allah Almighty has not created any disease but He has also created a cure for it, except for one disease.’ They said, ‘What is it?’ He said, ‘Old age.'”

And from Ibn Abi Khuzaimah, from his father, he said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), ‘O Messenger of Allah, what do you think about using incantations, seeking medical treatment, and taking precautions against disease? Can anything be changed that Allah has already decreed?’ He said, ‘They are part of the decree of Allah.'”

Allah Almighty says in the Quran, “O mankind, there has come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers” [Surah Yunus: 57].

The Quran is a cure for the hearts from the diseases of doubts and suspicions and a cure for the bodies from illnesses. Whenever a person seeks this goal, he will obtain psychological and physical healing by the permission of Allah Almighty.

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best medicine is the Quran.” [Ibn Majah, Book of Medicine, Chapter on Healing with the Quran, and it is considered good by some scholars and weak by Al-Albani].

And in another narration, “The Quran is the medicine.” [Hasan by Al-Manawi, weak by Al-Albani].

And in another narration, “Take honey and the Quran as your cure.” [Ibn Majah, authenticated by Al-Hakim and Al-Dhahabi, weak by Al-Albani].

How can healing be obtained through the Quran?

This can be achieved through two things:

1. Reciting it, especially during the last third of the night, while intending to seek healing.
2. Using it for Ruqyah, as the effect of reciting the Quran produces a great impact on strength, vitality, health, and well-being that cannot be equaled by any herbal mixtures or compound formulations. Therefore, we should deal directly with the Quran, as it is easy for everyone who is sincere in their dealings with it to find in reciting it.

These are three separate passages in Arabic:

1. “Al-Bukhari narrated from Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that a group of companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family and companions, were on a journey and passed by a tribe of the Arabs who hosted them. However, they did not honor their guest rights. So they said to them, ‘Do you have anyone who is ill or afflicted, for the Lord of this tribe is a healer?’ One of them said, ‘Yes,’ so they went to him and recited Surat Al-Fatihah (the Opening Chapter of the Quran) for him, and he was cured. He gave them a flock of sheep, but they refused to accept it and said, ‘We will not take it until we mention it to the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family and companions.’ So they went to the Prophet and told him what happened. He smiled and said, ‘How do you know that it is a cure?’ Then he said, ‘Take it and divide it among yourselves.'”

2. “Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated that when the Prophet, peace be upon him, felt sick, he would recite Al-Mu’awwidhat (the last two chapters of the Quran, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) on himself and blow on his hands. When his pain became severe, I would recite them for him and wipe his hands with my hands, seeking the blessings of his hands.”

3. “In another narration from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, she said, ‘When the Prophet, peace be upon him, went to bed every night, he would put his hands together and blow into them, then recite Surat Al-Ikhlas (Quran Chapter 112), Surat Al-Falaq (Quran Chapter 113), and Surat An-Nas (Quran Chapter 114), and wipe his body with them as much as he could, starting with his head and face and whatever he could reach of his body. He would do this three times.'”
